A rare brilliant comet (Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) will become visible to us living in the northern hemisphere of planet earth beginning October 14, 2024 and on. This rare phenomenon will make it’s appearance to us at first very low on our western horizon and rising daily until it reaches around the orbit of Jupiter at which point it will completely lose it’s tail as it loses the solar energy/heat that causes the out gassing that we see as a comets tail.
As luck would have it a full moon will also be in our evening sky washing out some of this brilliance but fear not as your friends at the “Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society” will be timing a couple of star parties on evenings before the moon rises giving us the best conditions possible (from a large city) of this rare astronomical show.
The public is encouraged to view this naked eye wonder with binoculars and cameras where ever possible and advised to check in frequently here for upcoming star parties announcements on where you can join us and view a close up through a telescope and talk astronomy with your local amateurs.
