DESCRIPTION:Volunteers from the Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society (BBVAS) will be setting up telescopes on the sidewalk in front of the Barrel 33 Wine Shop in the village for a free public meet and greet. \nTourist and locals alike are invited to meet with and talk astronomy with a local amateur astronomer\, view the 1st quarter moon\, the planets and whatever else might be visible on this particular evening through a telescope. \nThe public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and attempt taking a cell phone pic of our cratered moon through a telescopes and see where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (Man) first landed on another terrestrial body in the heavens\, always a fun souvenir. \nDisclaimer: All astronomy events are free\, begin at dusk and are weather permitting.

SUMMARY:Perseid Meteor Shower and Star Party
DESCRIPTION:The Perseid Meteor Shower will peak on Monday August 12\, 2024. But fear not meteor shower lovers\, most meteor showers start 1-2 weeks before their peak date and will continue for 1-2 weeks past their peak date\, only the peak date is ever advertised. With the knowledge that this meteor shower starts 2 weeks prior and will continue for 2 weeks post this event should still produce many shooting stars for all who invest the time to simply lay back and look up. \nTo keep the evening entertaining volunteers from the Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society will be setting up telescopes of varies sizes and styles for a free public viewing of many celestial objects visible to us from this location and this time. Fingers crossed a comet should make it’s appearance\, it’s happened before\, look at some of our pics from our dark sky site in Big Bear. \nBring your family and friends for this family fun and educational wonder. Blankets and chairs highly recommended. \n
